Student Success: Ethan Passes Grade 1 Guitar with Distinction (LCM)

I am really pleased to share the success of my student Ethan, who passed his Grade 1 Guitar exam with Distinctionwith the London College of Music (LCM) exam board.

Ethan has been studying guitar with me for around 18 months, and he always arrives at his lessons well prepared and ready to work. Over that time he has developed excellent focus and consistency in his practice.

In addition to his exam preparation, Ethan has also taken part in live school performances and has been involved in several school music projects, which is wonderful to see. Performing in front of others is a fantastic way for young musicians to build confidence and enjoy sharing their music.

During his most recent lesson, I asked Ethan to play one of the pieces from his exam programme titled “The Raggle Taggle Gypsy.” We recorded the performance on my iPhone during the lesson. In the video, Ethan plays the lead guitar part, while I accompany him on rhythm guitar.

Moments like this are always rewarding as a teacher. Seeing students grow in confidence and musical ability over time is what makes teaching guitar so enjoyable.

I am confident that we will hear much more from Ethan in the future, and I look forward to sharing more of his music here soon.

Well done, Ethan!

Guitar Graded Exams For Children in Surrey

Why Guitar Exams Can Be Great for Young Students

For many children, working towards a guitar exam can be very motivating. It gives them a clear goal, helps them develop discipline and focus, and provides a sense of achievement when they pass.

However, exams are only one part of learning music. In my lessons I always focus on helping students build solid technique, musical understanding, and enjoyment of the instrument, so they develop skills that last for years.

Encouraging Children to Learn Guitar

Learning guitar can be incredibly beneficial for children. It helps develop:

  • Concentration and patience

  • Confidence through performing

  • Listening skills and musical awareness

  • A sense of accomplishment from regular progress

Many parents are surprised how much their children enjoy learning once they start making real music on the guitar.
