Guitar Lessons for Children in Banstead – 10-Year-Old Louie Performing with Confidence

I’m delighted to share another success story from my pupil Louie from Banstead.

In the video below, you’ll see Louie performing a piece called Bass Blues by Tatiana Stachak, taken from her excellent beginner guitar book First Class Guitar. This is a resource I regularly recommend to younger students, as it contains many beautiful, well-written pieces that introduce musical ideas in a very natural and enjoyable way.

One of the standout features of First Class Guitar is its illustrations. They don’t just make the book visually appealing; they actively support musical interpretation and help students understand the character and feel of each piece. This makes practising more engaging and encourages children to think musically from the very beginning.

In Bass Blues, our main focus has been developing a swing feel. Swing can be surprisingly tricky for beginners, as it requires a relaxed sense of timing rather than rigid counting. Louie has done a fantastic job here and has memorised the piece so thoroughly that he hardly needs to look at the music at all.

What makes this achievement even more special is that Louie has also performed Bass Blues at his school talent show, showing confidence, preparation, and real musical maturity.

I’m incredibly proud of Louie’s progress and dedication, and I look forward to sharing more of his musical projects very soon.
