Electric Guitar Lessons In Epsom and Surrey
I’m delighted to share the work of my online student Bill, based in New York. I originally met Bill many years ago when he was living in London, and since then we’ve continued lessons remotely. By now, we’ve probably been working together for around 10 years.
We both share a huge passion for classic rock and 1980s rock and metal.
Back when we had face-to-face lessons, we focused mostly on covers of Bill’s favourite artists. But very early on, I encouraged him to record his playing, and once he moved back to the USA, our approach evolved completely — we shifted to working entirely on original songs.
Over the past eight years, Bill has written and recorded numerous original tracks. At this point, he has enough material for two to three full albums, and some of these songs are now available on his SoundCloud page.
One thing I really admire about Bill is how open he is to feedback. He’s always willing to refine his compositions and recordings until they sound as good as possible. What’s even more impressive is that he achieves all of this with a very simple home setup, as shown in the photo attached to this article.

On top of that, Bill plays all the guitars and bass, and he programs his drums in Superior Drummer.
Because he doesn’t want to disturb anyone at home, he does all his recording early in the morning before work, wearing headphones. That level of commitment speaks for itself.
Our 12 noon Saturday lesson is genuinely one of the highlights of my week. As a teacher, I’m incredibly proud of the music he creates.
On his SoundCloud, you’ll hear songs inspired by bands like Journey, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, and Led Zeppelin. I hope he uploads more of his older material too — those tracks were equally strong.
