Guitar Teacher In Epsom & Ewell

Guitar Teacher In Epsom

Hello! I’m Greg, a guitar teacher based in the Epsom area. I’ve been playing the guitar for nearly 30 years and teaching professionally for the past 18 years. My goal is to help students of all ages and skill levels enjoy playing guitar, while building their confidence and musical abilities.

I teach a variety of guitar styles, including classical (up to grade 5), acoustic fingerstyle, bluegrass, and rock music. I’ve always had a love for different guitar genres, and I try to share that enthusiasm with my students, whether they’re interested in classical guitar techniques or the energetic sound of rock.

Aside from teaching, I’m also a musician and composer. I’ve played in several bands over the years, but these days I focus on solo fingerstyle guitar and writing music with my wife for our two-piece band, Giant George. My experience as a performer and composer helps me offer practical advice and insights for students, whether they’re learning for fun or with the aim of performing.

My Studio Location & Accessibility

I teach from my studio, which is located near The Queen Adelaide Pub and Ewell Court House, just a short drive from GuitarGuitar Music shop in Epsom. It’s easily accessible for students from Tolworth, Surbiton, New Malden, Sutton, Ashtead, Banstead, and Tadworth. I’m also fortunate to have students who travel from further afield, including London.

If you can’t make it to the studio, I also offer online lessons via Zoom or FaceTime, and I teach students from various locations across the UK, as well as in Germany and the USA.

What I Teach & My Musical Influences

My teaching covers a range of guitar styles, with a special focus on fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I also teach classical guitar up to grade 5. I believe that learning the basics of fingerstyle can open up lots of musical opportunities, and I always aim to make lessons enjoyable and engaging.

Some of my favourite acoustic guitarists include Tommy Emmanuel, Doyle Dykes, Clive Carroll, and Will McNicol, whose styles have influenced my own playing. I’m also a big fan of acoustic bluegrass players like Jake Workman, Bryan Sutton, Trey Hensley, and Billy Strings.

Having come from a rock background, I also teach electric guitar. If you’re into classic rock, some of my favourite bands are Deep Purple, Rainbow, Dio, and Whitesnake, and I’d be happy to guide you through learning some of their iconic songs.
