Free Trial Guitar Lesson for Children in Epsom & Surrey – What to Expect

Booking a free trial guitar lesson is the best way for parents and children to see what learning with me is really like. I keep these sessions fun, structured, and focused on giving your child the right foundation from the very first day. This is a completely free, no-obligation lesson — there’s absolutely no pressure to continue afterwards unless you and your child feel it’s the right fit.

Lesson Length

  • Ages 6–9: 30 minutes – short and engaging to suit younger attention spans.

  • Ages 10+: 1 hour – enough time to cover more ground while keeping the lesson enjoyable.

What We Cover in the Trial Lesson

  1. Correct posture and how to hold the guitar – setting children up with healthy playing habits.

  2. Right- and left-hand technique – focusing especially on proper right-hand movement, which is key for tone and control.

  3. Mini lesson – I’ll show how good posture and technique immediately make learning a simple song easier and more enjoyable.

  4. Action plan – personalised advice on what the next steps should be for your child.

  5. Questions answered – parents are encouraged to ask anything, from practice routines to guitar sizes.

Safeguarding and DBS Certification

Children are always accompanied by their parents during lessons. I also hold a full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, giving families peace of mind that lessons take place in a safe, professional environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should we bring to the trial lesson?

A: If your child doesn’t yet own a guitar, they can use one of mine. If they already have a guitar or any music books, feel free to bring those along. Otherwise, just bring your child and a willingness to give it a try.

Q: How do we book a slot?

A: Booking is simple. You can contact me directly by phone or email, and I’ll confirm a convenient time with you and send over all the details.

Q: What happens after the trial?

A: There’s no obligation to continue. If your child enjoys the session and you’d like to move forward, I’ll explain the different lesson options, prices, and flexible scheduling choices.

Q: What’s your teaching approach?

A: My lessons are student-centred and always tailored to the child in front of me. I focus on positivity, showing the relationship between practice and results, offering encouragement, and making learning fun while building solid technique. I also encourage children to consider graded exams when they are ready, as these can be a great way to build confidence and mark progress.

Q: Are you teaching complete beginners?

A: Yes — I specialise in teaching children who are absolute beginners. No prior experience is needed. I’ll introduce the basics step by step, making the first lesson approachable, enjoyable, and confidence-building.

Q: What can we expect in the first 3–6 months?

A: Most beginners learn how to sit correctly, use both hands with confidence, and play a few simple songs within the first few months. By this stage, children start to feel proud of their progress and motivated to practise more at home.

Q: What’s the role of parents in lessons?

A: Parents are always welcome to sit in. This reassures children and helps you see how to support practice at home. Many parents enjoy watching their child’s progress first-hand.

Q: Where are you based?

A: I teach from my home studio at 24 Fairfield Way, Epsom, Surrey, KT19 0EF. I also welcome students from surrounding towns including Ewell, Stoneleigh, Worcester Park, Ashtead, Banstead, Chessington, Surbiton, New Malden, and Sutton. This local focus makes lessons convenient and accessible for families across Surrey.

Q: Are prices clear and upfront?

A: Yes. All my lesson prices are clearly listed on my website so there are no surprises. Parents can see exactly what to expect before committing.

Q: Do you have testimonials or reviews?

A: Yes — many parents have kindly shared positive feedback about their child’s experience learning with me. You can also visit my profile on Google Maps to read reviews directly from local families.

Q: Are lessons flexible?

A: Absolutely. I offer options for weekly or fortnightly lessons, the ability to reschedule with notice, and even gift vouchers if you’d like to give lessons as a present.
