Guitar Lesson Prices

When you choose a guitar teacher, you’re choosing the path that will shape your progress, refine your technique, and build your confidence as a musician. Not all lessons are the same. Structure, experience, and the depth of guidance make a huge difference to how quickly and confidently a student develops.

When you study with me, you’re not just paying for lesson time — you’re investing in a clear, well-tested learning process designed to build real, lasting musical skill. This is the true return on your investment: the ability to play confidently, understand music properly, and enjoy your instrument for years to come. High-quality teaching also saves you time, frustration, and the hidden costs of developing habits that can hold players back later.

A teacher’s skill is easy to recognise in the way they communicate, diagnose problems, and offer practical solutions. Great teachers can pinpoint the root causes of your challenges almost immediately and show you exactly how to solve them. This level of clarity accelerates your progress and prevents months — sometimes years — of trial and error.

I’m confident in the effectiveness of my teaching, which is why I offer your first lesson completely free. It gives you the chance to experience my approach, understand how I can help you move forward, and see the results for yourself. Not every teacher in the area offers this opportunity, but I believe that transparency and proof of value are essential.

Like any worthwhile investment, guitar lessons may require budgeting or rethinking priorities, but the payoff is significant. Many of my students choose to stay with me for years because they experience consistent progress and appreciate the value of learning properly from the beginning. Their long-term commitment is the strongest proof that expert teaching provides genuine value for money — and leads to lifelong musical ability, not short-lived enthusiasm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are your guitar lessons so expensive?

It may seem like a lot, but the fee reflects much more than just the time spent in the lesson.

  • Experience & Expertise – You’re not only paying for an hour, but for my years of playing, training, and teaching that help students progress faster.

  • Preparation & Resources – Each lesson is carefully tailored with exercises, repertoire, and strategies that fit your needs, saving you wasted time and frustration. The lesson itself is not the only time I spend helping you—I also prepare in advance, learn new songs or techniques to suit your progress, and continually educate myself to become a better teacher for you.

  • Studio & Equipment Costs – Running a dedicated teaching space, keeping instruments maintained, and providing learning materials all add to lesson quality.

  • Travel Costs – I don’t teach from my own home, so my fees also reflect the time and cost of travelling to the studio where I teach.

  • Free Trial Lesson – Unlike many other professions (like dentists or lawyers who charge for the first appointment—even if it’s only a check-up or consultation that doesn’t solve the problem), I offer a free introductory lesson that can teach you something new straight away. This is my own unpaid time, invested in you and in building a long-term relationship that helps you succeed.

  • Value of Progress – A teacher helps you avoid bad habits, wasted years, and dead ends. In the long run, this guidance saves you both time and money.

Think of it less as a cost and more as an investment in skills that last a lifetime.

Q: Do I have to pay monthly or can I pay per lesson?

Most students pay monthly in advance, as it keeps lessons consistent and scheduled. However, in special cases we can discuss alternatives.

Q: Are 30-minute lessons enough for my child?

Yes. For younger children and beginners, 30 minutes is often the perfect length—short, focused, and effective. Older children and adults may prefer 60 minutes for more depth.

Q: Do you have a DBS check?

Yes—I hold a full enhanced DBS check that covers teaching children and vulnerable adults.

Q: What happens if I miss a lesson without notice?

Lessons cancelled with less than 7 days’ notice are forfeited. This ensures lesson times remain fair and available for all students.

Q: Can parents sit in on lessons?

Absolutely. Many parents find it helpful to watch, take notes, and support practice at home.

Q: What do you do differently from other teachers? Why should I study with you?

Choosing a teacher is a very personal decision—it depends on whether you connect with the teacher as a person as much as a musician. Not every guitar teacher is the same, and not every guitar lesson will be the same. Just like people, we are all unique.

Throughout this website—especially in the News and Resources section, which is my blog—I’ve tried to show that I am deeply passionate about music and about helping people of all ages learn. I’m not just a teacher, I’m also a parent—my son is 8 years old—so I understand how children think, learn, and sometimes struggle. That gives me patience and empathy with young beginners.

For adults, I bring not only 30 years of playing experience and over 20 years of teaching, but also plenty of life experience. This means I can relate to the challenges and goals of learners who are balancing music with work, family, and busy lives.

And finally, I offer a free trial lesson. This is your opportunity to step into my musical world, learn something new straight away, and benefit from the lessons I’ve learned through my own journey—including the mistakes I made as a self-taught musician before finding proper guidance.

Q: Do you offer online lessons?

Absolutely—I teach many students via Zoom and FaceTime. In-person lessons are what most people prefer, but you’re welcome to choose whichever format works best for you.

Q: What if I can’t afford weekly lessons?

That’s okay—many students choose fortnightly or monthly sessions. Even occasional lessons give structure, feedback, and guidance to keep you moving forward.

Q: Why do you require 7 days’ notice to cancel when some places only ask for 24–48 hours?

Good question! My teaching schedule fills up quickly, and each lesson slot is reserved especially for you. With shorter notice, it’s almost impossible to offer that time to another student. A 7-day policy ensures fairness, keeps the schedule stable for everyone, and allows me to dedicate my full energy to teaching rather than juggling last-minute changes.

Some places that allow 24–48 hour notice are often large companies with big budgets and a high turnover of clients. I operate as a self-employed guitar teacher, so every reserved lesson time matters. This policy helps me give consistent, high-quality teaching to every student I work with.
